WordCamp Denver 2016 – Rocky Mountain High

This weekend I skipped on up to one of our Four Corners partners, Colorado, to attend WordCamp Denver. This year’s two-day #WCDenver took place at the Springhill Suites by Marriott in downtown Denver with two tracks, the Ballroom and the Events Lab. The venue’s proximity to the heart of downtown Denver made the walk an easy one to local cultural landmarks.

Fresh off the plane from a couple days of R&R following the rain and chill at WordCamp Seattle, I wasn’t very well packed for the unseasonably warm week in Denver. Thankfully I had my trusty SiteLock Secure Your Word Away Team shirt.

On day one, I spent the morning catching up with some friends from the space and becoming acquainted with the organizers, like the camp’s Lead Organizer Drew Jaynes, whom I’d only met online while contributing to the WordPress plugin guidelines documentation earlier this year. Denver turned out to be a popular spot for folks all across the Four Corners region and beyond.

After making my rounds in the Hallway Track, I slipped into a couple talks on subjects I hadn’t seen before, like “Translating WordPress for the Tech-challenged” with Janel Kane. I felt the subject was very relevant to the majority of us WordPressers that work on the services side of business since those most in need of technology services are often those that least understand them.

Although the weather was warmer than expected, many campers seemed to take it as a blessing by congregating outside between sessions. Here I brought my own stay to a close, taking in the beautiful Rockies and city skyline before boarding a puddle jumper and getting a clearer view as I passed overhead.
