Welcome to SiteLock Unlocked, our new blog series that provides exclusive one-on-one interviews with the awesome team members here at SiteLock. Through this series, you’ll get an inside look at the more personal side of SiteLock. We’ll interview different SiteLock members from various departments to highlight how their dedicated efforts contribute to your website security.
To kick-start our series, we sat down with a member of the SiteLock Research team to showcase what a day in the life as a SiteLock Website Security Research Analyst looks like.
This is one of our skilled Website Security Research Analysts playing Disc Golf. We call him Wyatt. You can thank Wyatt and the SiteLock Research team for their data analysis to find new, unknown malware used to compromise legitimate websites. Wyatt plays a key role in manually reviewing code that our SMART scan flags as suspicious. If the code is found to be malicious, he’ll write new scripts for our scanners that are designed to automatically detect and remove malicious website code before any damage is done. Pretty cool work.
Wyatt went to school for website design but much of his knowledge is self-taught. He’s highly skilled in PHP web development, and not only does he have his PHP Certification, he’s also GWAPT Certified. GWAPT is a prestigious certification that stands for Web Application Penetration Testing (G stands for GIAC – Global Information Assurance Certification). GIAC is an information security certification entity that specializes in technical and practical certifications. Clearly, Wyatt is an authority in website security and web development. We’re lucky to have him in on our lineup!
Wyatt has always loved technical challenges. He’s been doing logic puzzles since he was a kid and uses the same approach to his job here at SiteLock – except he’s solving security puzzles. “Do what you love and you’ll love what you do” is his work philosophy.
When asked what he likes most about working at SiteLock, Wyatt is quick to answer, “The company culture.” This isn’t surprising as we were recently named one of the 2017 ‘100 Best Companies in Arizona’ by Best Companies AZ for having a strong, unique culture that promotes creativity and innovation. Wyatt enjoys working with a diverse group of people who come together to offer an exceptional standard of excellence to our customers.
Beyond SiteLock and website security, we wanted learn more about Wyatt and his hobbies. Wyatt’s dream vacation is Scotland. Why Scotland? Maybe because it’s famous for bagpipes, haggis and kilts? Nope, it’s the Scotch and the culture that holds Wyatt’s interest. Wyatt explained that he’s a Scotch enthusiast (not while he’s working, of course) and is keen on touring Scotch distilleries – ‘Here’s tae ye!’
We can’t forget to mention Wyatt’s two dachshunds, Odie and Kaylee. Odie gets his name from the dog in the Garfield comic, and Kaylee is named after Wyatt’s favorite character, Kaylee Frye, from the TV show, Firefly. Wyatt describes his pups as energetic, playful and cuddly.
Wyatt was born and raised in sunny Arizona, and it just so happens that SiteLock is headquartered in Scottsdale. Wyatt has also been a recreational Disc Golf player for four years. He usually competes in 5 – 10 amateur tournaments each year.
Wyatt’s website security advice
We asked Wyatt to fill in the blank:
‘Your website may be at risk if you, have not updated your applications to the most current version.’
Just for fun
Wyatt’s favorite cybersecurity joke:
Let us know if you get it.
