It’s been a whirlwind year of awesome WordCamps for us here at SiteLock. From East to West, and North to South, we reached all four corners of the United States. We even ventured over the border to Montreal and overseas to Serbia! To finish out an amazing year, we headed to the South one final time for one of our biggest events of the year—WordCamp US 2018 in Nashville, TN!
#WCUS was held at the Music City Center, which is an ideal space for such a large group of WordPress users from around the globe. Between the restaurants and live music, Nashville proved to be a fantastic city to host WordCamp US once again!
One of the things we love most about #WCUS is the opportunity to present a unique theme in our booth. You might remember:
2016 – “Relax We’ve Got Your Back”—where we offered free massages to all the busy WordCamp attendees
2017 – “Beat Hackers To The Draw”—featuring SiteLock’s version of a country-star Wapuu and a caricature artist
2018 – Blockbuster Security and a Legendary Cast
This year our theme went back in time to the heyday of Hollywood, where glitz and glamour were on full display during red carpet premiers. We pulled out all the stops to bring you the nostalgia of old Hollywood with our blockbuster security and a legendary cast!
Returning to #WCUS was the ever popular Matt Cox, a local caricature artist. Many WordCamp US attendees remembered Matt, and since this activation was so popular in 2017, we brought two artists this year!
Thanks to Matt and Tracy, we got to see a lot of familiar faces and meet new people as they waited in line for their caricatures. Plus, it was fun to see everyone sharing their caricatures on social media! If you had your caricature done and haven’t downloaded the digital file yet, you can find them here.
WordPress 5.0 and Gutenberg
The big news out of WordCamp US 2018 was the launch of WordPress 5.0 featuring the Gutenberg Editor! This new editor provides more ways to easily customize your WordPress website through blocks, allowing you to insert, rearrange, and style your content—which is particularly helpful for folks who aren’t as tech savvy to build a website. Stay tuned for more info on WordPress 5.0 and Gutenberg right on here on our blog!
WordCamp US 2018 was an amazing experience! We’d like to extend our sincerest thanks and praise to the WCUS organizing team, the volunteers, speakers, sponsors, and attendees for a memorable few days. Thanks for stepping back in time with us to witness our blockbuster security and legendary cast!
Now, we need your help! Even though WCUS 2018 just finished, we are already planning our theme for WordCamp US 2019 and want your input! Find us on social media and tell us what you think our next WCUS theme should be!
Meet you St. Louis!
