I met up with fellow speaker Christie Chirinos at the inaugural WordCamp Pittsburgh a few camps ago and sat down to learn a little bit about what she does for Caldera Labs as both a Partner and the Business Manager for the team.
Question: What brings you to WordCamp?
Christie Chirinos: I love attending any WordCamp that I possibly can because it’s amazing to meet new people that are using WordPress in the huge variety of uses that there are for people building their new businesses or new blogs online, to the plugin developers, theme developers. For WordCamp Pittsburgh I was accepted as a speaker to talk about A/B testing and conversion optimization so I came by to do that and meet people, and for the food.
Question: What can you tell us about your shirt?
Christie Chirinos: My shirt is Wapuu holding the Caldera WP globe. That’s what we call it. It’s a pretty sweet shirt if I do say so myself.
Question: What does your company do?
Christie Chirinos: Caldera is a WordPress plugin company. We make Caldera Forms, which is an amazing (no bias) drag and drop form builder for WordPress that has many other different uses and extensions such as payment processing, membership sites, so on and so forth. We also make Ingot, a tool for conversion rate optimization, so it automates the A/B testing process all within WordPress, and we’re working on a couple of other things.
Question: What is your role in the company?
Christie Chirinos: At Caldera WP my role is essentially that of anything that has to do with the sphere of business and marketing. We’re a small team so we wear all of the hats, but for the most part that’s my role.
Question: What keeps you up at night?
Christie Chirinos: Oh my God, everything! That embarassing weird thing that I did seven years ago, that embarassing weird thing that I did last week, what’s happening tomorrow, will we sell enough Caldera Forms to feed our children and till the farms?
Questions: If you could have dinner with anyone in history, who would it be?
Christie Chirinos: If I could have dinner with anyone in history, living or dead, I would probably choose Elizabeth Warren. I’m pretty obsessed with Elizabeth Warren. She’s kind of crazy, but also intelligent, but also crazy. It’s cool. I admire that. I admire an outspoken woman that knows exactly what she wants to achieve and knows how big it is and is doing it anyway.
Question: Star Wars or Star Trek?
Christie Chirinos: Star Wars was a mainstream cultural phenomenon. Star Trek is great, it’s much more plot-deep and what ever you might want to add into it, but Star Wars changed the world. That’s just a fact. Sorry Trekkies.
Question: Cowboys or Aliens?
Christie Chirinos: We’ve seen cowboys, we made up cowboys. Aliens, they’re like a mystery. They’re a new thing, a new remarkable thing.
Question: Batman or Superman?
Christie Chirinos: Batman, because Batman is attenuable to a regular human being. Sort of.
Question: Beer or Coffee?
Christie Chirinos: I’m not choosing between my mother and my father.
Question: Faster or slower?
Christie Chirinos: Faster.
Christie Chirinos: That’s deep. I don’t know how to answer that.
That’s not usable.
