Robby McCullough:

Can you tell us your name and what you do?

My name is Robby McCullough and I’m one of the co-founders of Beaver Builder. It’s a drag-and-drop website builder for WordPress, and my Twitter handle is @RobbyMcCullough.

When did you first start with WordPress?

I have a little trouble answering that one because it’s kind of a vague time period, but my first experience with PHP Open Source was phpBB. I created a surfing forum with a friend of mine, and we needed a blog for our website, so at some point, we were exploring options for a blog, and we found WordPress, and that was my first taste of it.

What do you consider your biggest WordPress win?

Well, sure, we’ve been doing Beaver Builder. We launched about 2 years ago and that’s by far away been the most successful project I’ve had on WordPress, personally.

What do you see as the biggest challenge for WordPress?

That’s a tough one. I think we hear a lot of people are worried about the square spaces or like the hosted builders coming in and encroaching, and you hear a lot about the WordPress stigma with security. I think those problems … There’s always going to be competitors and then there’s always … WordPress has such a massive reach that as secure as it is, there’s always gonna be those edge cases that get a lot of publicity and it’s the vocal minority. You’re going to hear all about the bad stuff. I don’t think that’s going to change, but I wish it could. I think that’s one of the big hurdles as far as WordPress growing, and particularly growing into the enterprise that it has to overcome.
