Expect Increased Volumes

This year, 80% of consumers plan to spend as much or more than they did in 2014, according to an analysis of available research by PFSWeb. Just on Cyber Monday alone, total sales made from consumers’ desktops reached $2.28 billion, up 12% from 2014. Mobile sales on Cyber Monday grew 53% from last year, with total sales reaching $838 million.

Expect Increased Number of Attacks

Web application attacks were a leading cause of confirmed data breaches last year. On Black Friday, web application firewalls were triggered more than 2.5 times the normal number, as measured from the previous four Fridays. Common hacks used by attackers were cross site scripting and SQL injections.

Web Applications Store Sensitive Customer Information

With web applications storing, creating and modifying your sensitive data, it’s no surprise that hackers target 80% of their attacks directly at them. Recent reports reveal web application attacks hit retailers the hardest. One possible explanation for this is they store sensitive customer information, including customer names, addresses and credit card details. If a cybercriminal gets hold of your web application, all of this information could be compromised without you even noticing.

Protect your customers

Your customers are relying on you to protect their personal information. A web application firewall will protect your website from data breaches, malicious traffic and harmful requests. Choosing a firewall that blocks targeted attacks on the OWASP Top 10 list, including cross-site scripting and SQL injection attacks, is highly recommended. Your web application firewall can make all the difference.
